Romain’s family is visiting the US this month and they spent four days in Springfield this past weekend. Most everyone stayed at our house in the spare bedrooms. We had so much fun. Thursday night we grilled some pork tenderloin and drank on the back porch. We were up super late drinking wine, ow my head. On Friday we went to Stockton lake. Romain rented a pontoon boat and a waverunner. Holy cow, I forgot how fun a waverunner can be. I want one! We got some pretty good sunburns. My dumb ass forgot the lunch meat so we have tomato sandwiches for lunch. Still waiting for the pictures from Amy. Friday night we had a kick ass dinner of sockeye salmon, asparagus two ways, mushroom risotto, sauteed spinach, and a fresh Bearnaise sauce. Romain’s mom also made a tasty salmon appetizer. The meal took forever to make and I think we finally ate at 11:30 PM. It was the best meal I have made at home in quite a while. We had even more wine! Saturday we all slept in and went to McAllister’s for lunch, mmm. After lunch it was a trip to Bass Pro to show the girls the big fish. We also bought some clays for sheet shooting. This is a lot of rambling, haha. Saturday afternoon we went my parent’s house for a party. We shot the shotguns for hours out in the field. That was freaking fun. It was even better when we started targeting actual birds while all three of us shot at the same time! We had a birthday party and some tasty food then it was time for fireworks. A giant storm caught us off guard so we had to shoot them off fairly quickly. The wind was gusting at 30 mph so more of the ground stuff did not work right. I was kind of pissed. The aerial stuff wasn’t too bad. I’m glad the house did not catch on fire. The rains came and we left shortly after. Everyone was super tired. We all got back to the house and went to bed. After breakfast this morning everyone loaded up their cars and they headed back to St. Louis. It was fantastic weekend!!

She was with her friend Alexa. They went to a Muse concert and attended some St. Patrick’s festivities. My weekend was pretty chill. We hung out at home, watched movies and played some Xbox. We had some damn tasty BBQ from Pappy’s Smokehouse for dinner Saturday night. Awesome food. It was great to see everyone.

I did not sleep very well the past couple of nights so I skipped my hockey game tonight. I fell asleep when I hit the couch this evening when we got home. Stupid time change.

John and Crystal are getting married in November! More news to follow.

She cooked up a fantastic Pad Thai that is far better than what you can get at Thai Express, no lie. It was spicy and delicious. We had a great Christmas exchange tonight. I got everything I asked for and she got everything on her list. It was a lot of fun tonight. I received a kick ass coat! We also got a really cool wireless sound system for the back porch. I think it will come in handy.

I am so excited about tomorrow. We get to see John, Crystal, Romain and Sherry! We don’t get to spend enough time with them.

Sarah made some delicious potato soup and I made my award winning chipotl chili. They both turned out really well. I wish I had not turned both crock pots on high though because the were both 150 degrees! They almost burned through the plastic bowls. Oops! After the chili and soup cooled down they were pretty tasty. I think everyone had a pretty good time. We’ll have to have more wine next time! Happy birthday mum!

Yesterday Sarah and I went over to Dawn’s for some more home improvement. We painted her game room and mustard yellow color. It looks really good! I also rearranged some lamps and a table to give her more light in the living room. I think her house looks really nice! She is getting new cabinets on the kitchen soon. Maybe she will have a house-warming party pretty soon. We hope.

It has been really hard to wake up the past few days. Only four more working days until I’m off for 5 days for the Thanksgiving holiday. I cannot wait. I am so so ready for a few days off.

Tim and I will be decorating for Christmas and putting up the tree, which I’m really looking forward to. I love all the holiday decor, lights and general festive ambiance that the holidays bring.

This is the time of year I’m most like my mom because all I want to do is decorate and bake cookies! We had a three story house growing up and every single floor was decked out in holiday gear. My mom also spent countless hours baking and making homemade candy. I’m not sure I’ve got her skills in that department, but it sure was fun to watch and provided for some fantastical memories of me sitting alongside mom on my bar stool “helping” her create various treats. The sugar cookies were the most fun for me. I absolutely loved rolling out the dough, finding just the right cookie cutter and then applying icing and sprinkles. We would decorate cookies for hours! Ahhh the holidays….. I just might need to get some recipes from mom!

It’s been a fairly busy weekend. Friday night we watched Ava for Mark & Angel while they went to dinner. She was a little fussy, but cute as a button. Yesterday, we spent most of our day at Dawn’s raking leaves, painting some blemishes on the walls and hanging pictures. I also painted her front door a really bright red. It looks really good. She loves it. Sarah and I are both pretty sore today.

Earlier this afternoon I crawled up in the attic and ran some coax cable to our kitchen. I was going to snake it down the and put in a box. I drilled down into the wall above and hit a bunch of insulation that appeared to be foam. I had no way to get the cable down in the wall so I drilled a hole in the ceiling behind the cabinets. It works for now. After my fun in the itchy attic we went to Target to buy a new television! We picked up a 22″ Vizio 1080p LCD for only $250. It’s awesome. We can also take it outside this summer.

We lost our game tonight 5-3. We started to get some things going in the third, but ran out of time. I thought I played really well. It pays not to get sloppy drunk on Saturday night, haha. My jock strap broke so I’ll have to make sure I get a new one next week before our game. I also need a new hockey bag because mine is about to fall apart. Come on Johnny Macs, OPEN!!! At least we had fun tonight on the ice. The refs were still douche bag and did not call a damn thing. We might as well be playing a drop-in if they don’t do their jobs.

So found out a couple of hours ago about the Ft. Hood shooting. This hits close to home as Mark was stationed there during his Army service. I am incredibly saddened by this event and feel terrible for the families of those involved. I am, however, so thankful that Mark and Angel are no longer living there. In fact, my dad and I went to visit Mark and Angel one Thanksgiving and during that time we walked the whole base. I can’t imagine the terror of someone opening up fire in a place where you should feel supremely safe and secure.

Mark says it’s probably related to post – traumatic stress and that his debriefing when he returned from Iraq was one question – “do you feel ok?”. If you said yes, you got to go home and if you said no you had to stay for a “full day” of counseling. A little lacking to say the least.

My prayers go out to the families of the soliders who were just showing up for work and not fighting off terrorists in Afghanistan.

-Sarah
